We designed and constructed a model bridge as part of a project to utilize structural mechanics and validate theoretical predictions with computational tools. Using cad software, I developed a scaled and detailed design of our the bridge. Using the model, we constructed the bridge from lightweight materials. We calculated the forces acting on each member under a known load using statics principles, through finite element analysis I examined and verified stress points which alinged with hand caclulations. The project highlighted the importance of both theoretical calculations paired with simulation tools. The project honed skills in structural analysis, cad modeling, fea, and hands-on construction.
